Prophets
From Encyclopedia Islam
The tradition of Allah in revealing His message to mankind is through a line of Prophets and Messengers, starting with the very first human created, Adam, all the way through the last and final Messenger, Muhammad (salallaahu `alayhi wa sallam).
All the Prophets of Allah taught the same message of worshipping Him Alone, without partner.
The following is a brief listing of major Prophets and Messengers in Islam. Many Prophet's would be familiar to those versed in Biblical scripture.
Major Prophets
Certain Prophets are mentioned more frequently and have reached a higher status than others, as mentioned in the Qur'aan and authentic narrations of the Prophet Muhammad (salallaahu `alayhi wa sallam).
Nuh (Noah)
The Prophet Nuh is best-known for his construction of the great Ark which protected him and those that believed in his message of the oneness of Allah from a great flood. However, less is known about the suffering he faced at the hands of his people in trying to deliver this message. Less known still is the length of his life. Ibraheem (Abraham)
The Prophet Ibraheem is likely the most well-known amongst the 3 so-called Abrahamic Faiths (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam). Few details from his life, however, are as well known to non-Muslims as they are to Muslims, amongst them his challenging of his people's idol worshipping, his confrontation with the king Nimrud, and his trial in facing the great pit of fire. Musa (Moses)
The Prophet Musa is well known for his encounters with Pharoh in Egypt during the time of the enslavement of Children of Israel. `Eesa (Jesus)
The Prophet `Eesa is bound to be the most controversial of the Prophets, as all three major religions hold different opinions about him.
